Preventing heart attacks

Excellent hour-long CNN documentary with Sanjay Gupta on how we can stop heart attacks through simply changing our diet:

Highlights:

  • Interview with President Clinton about his vegan diet (he looks great)
  • Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn (~minute 30): What not to eat: oil, dairy, meat, fish, and chicken. What to eat:  cereal, bread, and pasta, beans, vegetables (yellow, red, green), and fruit.
  • “Most doctors eat meat because most Americans eat meat… if they don’t really see for themselves or their own families why it might be a good idea to cut back and even cut meat out of their diet altogether, then they may not be so inclined to recommend it for their patients.” ~Michele Simon, author of Appetite for a Profit

This CNN documentary with Dr. Gupta was captivating and persuasive. His conclusions resonate beautifully with John Robbins’ research and books (including his superb “Healthy to 100”). When are medical schools going to start teaching their students more forcefully the link between the food we eat and the diseases we suffer from? We should all be eating a plant-based diet and eating nothing with a mother or a face.

I completely agree! Medical schools (and doctors in general) are really behind on this…
