Feeling Fall

Apples are one of the few things left to eat at the cafeteria these days, and I’ve been unintentionally collecting them. I brought home 2 in my bag this morning and then found 5 already waiting for me in my kitchen!

When I woke up from my nap it was cloudy and rainy and finally felt like Fall… which meant apple crisp time!

I officially od’d on too many of my special cookies and am needing a new midnight delicacy. I think this crisp will be perfect.

Here’s my recipe for apple crisp (gluten-free, sugar-free & vegan). Let me know what I’m missing.


  • Apples peeled and sliced (I used 5)
  • Truvia (2 packets)
  • Cinnamon (1 tbs)
  • Vanilla extract (1-2 tbs)


  • Oats (1.5 cups)
  • Coconut Flour (1/2 cup)
  • Peanut butter (1/2 cup)
  • Coconut oil (1/4 cup)
  • Walnuts (big handful, crushed)

Cover and bake: 400 degrees for ~40 minutes.

As it baked and the oven heated up my kitchen, I multitasked and did some yoga. My home practice has been struggling lately — my body is tired and I’m really missing having a community and teacher to practice with.

So today I took some of Richard Freeman’s recent advice on practicing with limited time (see below): noticed which postures I was avoiding and then made myself hold them longer (these days I’m avoiding anything involving a backbend).

yum- i LOVE LOVE apple crisp! wonderful blog- so glad i found my way here to a fellow yoga teacher! I also always give my students similar advice when they ask what they can do in half an hour or 45 mins practice. when i have little time for my own practice I do my set routine which often contains the postures I love to do and not so much standing balancing poses. I try to focus more on them when i have more time. How does your personal practice look like?

Great to “meet” you on here – thanks for saying hello! Where do you teach/practice? I practice traditional ashtanga (mysore) so my practice at home usually is a mix of primary and second series (whatever I have time for/ feel like!)

mmm yes I think you would love it (I kept leftovers in the fridge and its good on day 2 too!)
