Trying to stay healthy

by Christina on January 21, 2012

Two weeks of night shifts = not good for my body. Life has been pretty narrow: hospital/eat/sleep… not much space for anything else. I do not feel healthy!

But there is some good news in all this — we’re learning a ton and get more and more of those “moments” (that deeply fulfilling and yet fleeting feeling of competency). Plus, intern year is more than halfway over (!).

Here are some things that have been keeping me sane the past few weeks:

Pre-shift heartiness:

Upping my vitamin C intake overnight:

Nighttime orange supply in my cubby

Sipping green juice over coffee:

Working on my 2012 love list:

Getting to see the call room (it happened once!)

Middle of the night podcast meditation to destress:

Favorite midnight snack discovered so far:

6:30am! The cafeteria opens and the hospital starts to wake up… time for warm oatmeal:

Finally, my latest supplement investment/experiment – anyone have thoughts on these?

And of course, trying to do more yoga. Off to practice now.

HI Christina

I have been following your blog for a while.
As a fellow yogi and integrative doctor (been practicing med for about 25 years), I sympathize with the difficulty of staying healthy during the residency years.
You seem to be doing a fab job, much better that I did.
Yes, I tend to take spirulina or some some of greens mixture (barley, wheat grass etc) when under stress and also Co enz q10 (from 150mg dailiy to tds when really really run down)

All the very best in your journey. Keep blogging!!
cheers, love , light and may the Force be with you

Hi Min,

It is so nice to get this note from you – thank you for writing! I am glad to hear from someone who’s been through this, and see how you’ve made it all work in the end (just saw your website – I love it! I wish I lived in Australia and could meet you!)

Please keep in touch!!

Hi Christina

Thank you for your kind words
We may meet one day, maybe you might be in Sydney one day or I may be in the Bay Area. Ashtangis tend to cross paths.

I am heading to Samhita Yoga Thailand this year

take care

I agree with your recommendation of Columbia Gorge Organic “Just Greens” vegetable juice. So good for you! We all need to add this to our diets to prevent malnourishment. Its taste is not totally to my liking, so I add organic freshly squeezed orange juice and the mixture tastes great!

I think I first discovered because of your blog! They have been a lifesaver (but maybe a little too addictive!)
