Staycationing

by Christina on February 25, 2012

I’ve had some serious blog-block as I’ve been soaking up staycation time! It’s been a wonderfully rejuvenating 2 weeks, during which I decided to take advantage of living in this awesome city and state. Below are some of my favorite staycation activities…

1. Yoga:

I had to make up for the past 8 months of lonely kitchen home practice. This included lots of traditional morning mysore at my awesome SF studio,  spicing it up with some fun astayoga (they pepper in advanced series throughout the ashtanga traditional series), a fun Planet Granite vinyasa classes, and a trip to a couple San Diego yoga hot spots (Tim Miller and Jois Yoga). I’m feeling reconnected to the practice and hoping to carry some of that with me as I start in the emergency department next week.

2. Camping in Big Sur:

Pictures speak way better than words…all I can say is I want to sleep under the stars more often.

(I highly recommend this Star Walk app for stargazing — you point it to the sky and it tells you what you’re looking at!)

View from Highway 1

(Thanks for the headlamp for Christmas, Dad! I didn't realize it would be so handy!)

Morning view from the tent

Good morning via 🙂

3. Coffee, beach, & books:

Fully indulged in the La Boulange almond croissant (more than once!)

Ocean beach, good friend in tow & good coffee in hand

Gave Starbucks quite a bit of business per usual

4. Great food:

Cha-ya Vegetarian sushi

Osha thai

Plant cafe

Eating out is nice, but it's hard to beat home-cooked high-protein/fiber pancakes (made of oats, eggs, & flax seeds)

5. Health maintenance: I finally made myself a primary care appointment and out of curiosity got some baseline bloodwork done (Iron studies, Lipid panel, Vitamin D level, Vitamin B12). More on that to come…

Hi Christina! I’m a MS1 at UCLA and I really enjoy reading your blog. I lived in SF for the last 3 years and I definitely miss La Boulange croissants, Plant Cafe, and Ocean Beach. Take care! 🙂
